Miss Gina

Guitar & Vocals

Gina is a third-year Bachelor of Music student at the Australian Institute of Music, specialising in guitar. Being the daughter of a skilled fingerstyle guitarist, she grew up being lullabied by the six strings, and at ten years old finally picked up the instrument for herself. Under the careful tutelage of a variety of instructors, Gina developed a passion for both complex fingerstyle arrangements and the raw grit of punk rock. Around this time, she also underwent Music Theatre training at Hunter Drama, instilling a deep love of singing and performance. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Creative Arts at the Academy of Film, Theatre and Television, majoring in Acting, and frequently utilised her guitar and vocal skills in performances.

Having studied music pedagogy at AIM, Gina takes a Constructivist approach to teaching. She firmly believes that students learn best through active engagement and expanding on existing knowledge and passion. Each student brings their own unique experiences into the classroom, and these experiences are crucial to developing a student's musical flavour. Gina tailors each lesson to the strengths, weaknesses and passions of the individual student, allowing them to learn at their own pace and develop technical skills which align with their goals.

Gina believes that music - like all arts - is not just a skill to be mastered, but an intrinsic part of human nature, as instinctive as bees making honey. Everyone listens to music, taps their feet, or sings along to their favourite song. Learning music is not about meeting arbitrary technical requirements; it is about expanding our skillset to be able to express this instinct in more intricate ways. All levels of musical ability can be made to sound beautiful - after all, the woods would be very quiet if no birds sang except those that sang best!
