Mr James G

Guitar, Drums & Bass

James Grandison is a Sydney-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and music educator, best known for his work on electric and upright bass. While bass is his principal instrument, James also plays piano/keyboard, guitar, drums, and clarinet—bringing a broad and versatile musical skillset to both his performances and teaching practice. His creative style spans jazz, classical, R&B, funk, and rock, often blending improvisation, synthesisers, and original composition.

As a performer, James leads the jazz-funk group Dink, whose music has been featured on national radio and supported by shows across Sydney and Melbourne. He also performs with psychedelic rock band Cone of Confusion, neo-soul artist Yasmina Sadiki, and French-Australian pop artist Lili Alaska, with whom he co-released an EP. His classical work includes regular double bass performances with Modest Orchestra, Film Harmonia, and other ensembles, with appearances at Verbrugghen Hall and the Sydney Opera House.

Alongside his performance work, James is a dedicated educator. He currently directs the Stage Band at St George Girls High School and provides private tuition in performance and theory. He holds an Advanced Diploma of Music (Performance) and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
